St. Paul's, Astley Bridge (GR716115) Steeple.

The first church I visited on route 3 was a standard church of it's type. Set in a pleasant location at the heart of the local community.

St. Peter's, Belmont (GR674157) Steeple.

A very prominent church situated as it is on high ground in Belmont. Seemed too big for the village!

The Parish Church of St. George's, Chorley (GR585174) Tower.

A large church in Chorley Town Centre with a nice side elevation.

St. Mary's, Chorley. (GR582175) Tower.

The second of Chorley's three offerings on this trip was flanked by buildings and a car park. Unfortunately there was no really good photo point.

Chorley Parish Church of St.Laurence, Chorley (GR583177) Tower.

Looked to be an older church than the other's nearby. Would be worth a return as there was lots to see here.

St.Gregory's, Weld Bank, Chorley (GR584159) Spire.

Two faces to this one. From some angles it looked awful but rounding a corner would make it look a different church.

St.Paul's Parish Church, Adlington (GR604135) Tower.

The first view of this building was awe-inspiring. Great looking Tower that commands the building.

Adlington Cemetary (GR597127) Steeple.

Do I class this?? A small cemetary chapel but it has a spire and is on the map. Derelict condition and will be surprised if still standing in a couple of years.

St.Katharine's Parish Church, Blackrod. (GR613111) Tower.

A nice church on high ground and will be seen for miles around. Just unable to get the Tower by itself.

Blackrod Cemetary (GR621104) Spire.

Another cemetary chapel that is derelict. A strange, squat little thing with a token spire.

The Parish Church of Holy Trinity, Horwich. (GR644115) Tower.

A very imposing church which ably demonstrated why I hate trees - getting a decent photo was nigh on impossible!

St.Peter's, Halliwell (GR692106) Tower.

Trees again limited the photographic opportunities for this nice looking church.

St.Thomas the Apostle, Halliwell. (GR714108) Tower.

An extremely large brick building which looked in a poor state of repair. Can't see this one surviving much longer.

The Iron Church Antiques Centre, Halliwell (GR716106) Spire.

According to the latest map edition this isn't here - and now I know why! At least it's a better life than demolition. A lovely building it is too.

Like on Route 2 there was a church on this route, at Grid Ref 701102, that had also been demolished. Maybe recording these churches is a good thing after all??
