St.Peter's, Darwen. (GR694222)

A very pleasant looking building dating from the early19thC. Had a commanding position on high ground overlooking the town of Darwen. Worth another visit.

St.Joseph's Church, Darwen. (GR693216)

An unusual looking spire was connected to this Church - almost as though it was an after-thought. Nothing else really of note about this one.

St.Cuthbert's Church, Darwen. (GR685233)

Another unusual aspect to this one. The top of the Tower almost seemed incomplete due to the flat facade with the clock faces on hiding a much smaller pitched roof.

Hollins Grove Congregational Church, Darwen. (GR684235)

Only real vantage point for photographing this church was from across the road. Nothing to note as such but a very large complex of buildings and a small tower.

St.Bartholomews, Ewood. (GR678257)

The first of two churches on this route where the Tower looked to be seperate from the rest of the building. A lovely church overshadowed by a football stadium and will be worth a future visit.

St.Luke with St.Philip's, Blackburn. (GR673274)

This standard looking building reminded me of another visited on a different route. Very plain looking in a built up area. Nothing really jumped out.

St.Philip's, Blackburn. (GR668273)

Now this turned out to be an oddity! Only the Tower remained of St.Philip's and it took a while to positively discover it's identity. I think it was lovely to see this monument to the building that was here.

St.Mark the Evangelist, Blackburn. (GR665276)

Although it looked huge this was quite a compact building when you were actually up close. Nicely shaped tower and steeple although overall building was plain.

Church of the Sacred Heart, Blackburn. (GR666283)

Could it be co-incidence that as I arrived at this horrid brick leviathon it started to rain? Enough said!

Saint Silas', Blackburn. (GR666284)

Directly across the road however, the rain couldn't detract from the extremely beautiful St.Silas. The trees however limited the viewing angles.

Parish Church of St.James, Blackburn. (GR680292)

Standing at a high point overlooking the majority of Blackburn, this church's main point of interest was the top of the Tower and it's large 'windows'. Made it look very delicate.

St.Alban's and The Good Shepherd, Blackburn. (GR688286)

The large front window was definitely a feature of this church and almost detracted the eye from the tower. The rest of the building went for some distance back and was huge.

Holy Trinity, Blackburn. (GR688284)

Now this was the best of the day. Although now no longer in use Holy Trinity has at least been rescued from demolition by virtue of the Churches Conservation Trust. Still looked superb.

St.Thomas with St.Jude, Blackburn. (GR700282)

The second with a detached tower although at least you could see why. New church was very plain but the Tower was welcome to see standing.

Parish Church of Immanuel, Oswaldtwistle. (GR733267)

Second place on this list. A very well proportioned building and looked completely at one with it's surroundings. Nice to see.

Holy Trinity Church, Oswaldtwistle. (GR735272)

Situated on the corner of two main thoroughfares this building was reminiscent of St.Paul's in Ramsbottom on Route 9. Standard construction but likeable.
